"Raku Extravaganza Workshop" Click to view a gallery of photographs taken at the "Raku Extravaganza Workshop" Raku is a centuries old Japanese pottery method that was rediscovered by American ceramic artists during the 1960s. This method was adapted by contemporary pioneers, most notably ceramic artist Paul Soldner. Join us for a full day with these legendary artists and learn everything you ever wanted to know about the history, technique, and interpretation of this time-honored method. Stephen Branfman has been an independent studio potter since 1975. In 1977 he founded his studio, The Potters Shop, which has become a nationally known studio, school, and artist’s workspace. He now enjoys an international reputation as a potter, teacher, and writer. Patrick Crabb, a professor of ceramics at Santa Ana College, has been creating clay vessels deeply rooted in ancient artifact styles for the past 25 years. His work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally. In 1992 he was the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship award. Jim Romberg, professor of art and head of the ceramics program at Southern Oregon University, studied ceramics under the direction of Paul Soldner. He specializes in wheel and sculptural raku ceramics and teaches and exhibits work in Europe and the United States. Paul Soldner studied under the direction of Peter Voulkos and is known as the 'Father of American Raku'. He has made numerous innovations in the ceramic field and taught throughout the United States. His work has international recognition and can be found in both public and private collections world wide. Schedule of events:
