February 11, 2012 - Special Engagement - Collector's Evening

7:00 - 9:00 pm

The public is invited to mix with pottery collectors while viewing our current exhibit: Common Ground: Ceramics in Southern California 1945-1975. Attendees and exhibitors from the Los Angeles Pottery Show in Pasadena, CA and from Gladding McBean as well as other vintage pottery collector groups will be in attendance. The dinner event for the collectors and exhibitors is invitation only, however the museum will be open normal 2nd Saturday hours and the public is encouraged to mix with these leaders in today's ceramic industry as they view the exhibit.

Guests from the Period will make an appearance: Betty Davenport Ford, Dora DeLarios, Jerome and Evelyn Ackerman, Ed Traynor, Harrison McIntosh, Raul Coronel, Robert Glover, Martha Longenecker, and more.

Collect autographs for your copy of AMOCA’s Common Ground: Ceramics in Southern California 1945-1975 book.

Open to the public and free with paid museum admission, light refreshments will be served.

April 14, 2012 - Exhibition Opening - KilnOpening.edu and Big Fish, Small Pot V

Join us in celebrating the opening of our spring exhibitions - KilnOpening.edu and Big Fish, Small Teapot V.

KilnOpening.edu is an exhibition of Southern California ceramics instructors and their students that AMOCA holds every two years. This year we will also be having a special KilnOpening.edu High School show in our Vault as well. Join us on Opening Night to honor the participants and see ceramic work from up and coming artists.

Big Fish, Small Pot is an annual international teapot competition hosted for the first time by AMOCA. This is the fifth annual exhibition, drawing ceramic artists from around the world to participate in this unique event. Yixing teapot artists from China will be on hand in the Ceramics Studio to talk about the art of the Yixing teapot. The winner of Big Fish, Small Pot V will receive a Ceramics Study trip to China with ChineseClayArt.com.

May 12, 2012 - The Role of Ceramics in Education - Discussion Panel

This program is still in development. In conjunction with our KilnOpening.edu show, we will have a discussion panel on the role of ceramics in education. Speakers will include professors, High School instructors and educational leaders and touch on such topics as funding, community collaboration and creative solutions to common problems (ie: making tools as a class project).

June 9, 2012 - Vince Palacios, Guest Speaker & Artist

7:00 - 8:00 pm

Vince Palacios is a professor of Art Education at El Camino College. He has a BFA from Long Beach State University and his MFA from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. He will speak about the evolution of his work over time and his artistic process.
